Job summary

South Carolina Department of Public Health is seeking a Senior Laboratory Supervisor to oversee the Biosurveillance Unit in the Chemistry Section, including the OD2A program. The role involves supervising staff, developing procedures, and ensuring quality and safety standards in a CLIA-regulated environment.

You will coordinate instrumentation, method transfers, and regulatory compliance while engaging with CDC partners and hospital networks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry or natural sciences with chemistry credits.
• Experience operating and interpreting results from complex analytical instrumentation.
• Master's degree with MS instrumentation preferred.
• Experience supervising or leading laboratory staff preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, delegate, and supervise work in the Biosurveillance Unit within the Chemistry Section.
• Maintain OD2A program requirements and expand surveillance testing areas.
• Review SOPs, QA/QC, and purchasing records; ensure instrument maintenance and method transfers.
• Serve as SME in toxicology testing and oversee regulatory compliance (CLIA, DEA, grants).
• Provide training, document competencies, prepare reports, and present findings at meetings.
