Job summary

The Virginia House Democratic Caucus seeks a Policy and Legislative Director to shape policy positions, track legislation, and support caucus operations in Richmond, VA. This in-person role reports to the Executive Director and starts immediately on a rolling basis.

The director will coordinate with leadership and staff to advance priority bills and engagement with stakeholders. Responsibilities include monitoring bills, developing policy materials, and ensuring alignment with caucus messaging.

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Discretion, confidentiality, and political judgement required.
• Proficiency with Google Docs, Sheets, and other Workspace tools.
• Ability to collaborate with elected officials, staff, and stakeholders.
• Commitment to Democratic values and inclusive practices.
• Willingness to work extended hours as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead monitoring and reporting of caucus policy priorities throughout the legislative process.
• Research policy trends and summarize findings for caucus leaders and members.
• Develop policy materials including talking points and bill status updates.
• Collaborate with Communications to align policy priorities with messaging.
• Support caucus campaigns with legislative updates and questionnaires.
• Build relationships with officials, staff, lobbyists, and advocates.
• Assist with caucus operations and HR-related tasks as needed.
• Perform other duties assigned by Leadership and Executive Director.
