BACR is looking for a Violence Interruption Specialist to be a visible, trusted presence at Rudsdale High School, helping identify at-risk students, de-escalate conflict, and keep campus safe.

As a Violence Interruption Specialist, you'll be a familiar, credible presence on campus - someone students trust because you show up consistently, treat everyone fairly, and take their emotional wellbeing as seriously as their physical safety. You'll work to catch conflict before it escalates, support students' mental health and healing through the aftermath when it doesn't, and help build a trauma-informed campus culture where students feel safe enough to focus on school.

Skills and Qualifications
  • College degree required (social work, psychology, public health, or a related field preferred)
  • Previous experience working with justice-involved or high-risk youth highly preferred
  • Basic computer skills, including comfort with email, data entry, and case management software
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills
  • Ability to stay calm, neutral, and clear-headed in high-stress or fast-moving situations
  • Comfort building trust across different social groups without favoring any one side
  • A genuine passion for community-based violence prevention and youth safety
Responsibilities
  • Maintain a caseload of at-risk youth, checking in regularly to build trust and monitor safety over time
  • Maintain a visible, trusted presence on campus throughout the school day - hallways, passing periods, lunch, and other high-risk times
  • Identify at-risk students through daily engagement as well as referrals from school staff and counselors
  • Build individualized safety plans with students, updating them regularly as circumstances changeInput and maintain accurate case notes, safety plans, and mediation outcomes in BACR's case management system after every incident
  • Mediate conflicts between students or groups, de-escalating tension before it turns into violence
  • Coordinate immediately with school administration when incidents occur, and support students returning from suspension with structured reintegration plans
  • Lead at least one healing-centered or support group each month, plus a restorative or violence-prevention event each semester
  • Conduct outreach, including home visits, for students who are hard to reach or need extra support
  • Coordinate with on-site mental health providers to support students' emotional wellbeing and reinforce trauma-informed care across every adult in a student's life
  • Adhere to Rudsdale's community guidelines, including attending Coordination of Services Team (COST) meetings and other school events and meetings
  • Track conflict trends and report on caseload activity and mediation outcomes on a regular basis
