JOB SUMMARY
Provides leadership for the institution's long-term and short-term financial planning, internal and external financial reporting, general accounting, grant accounting, treasury and cash management, supply chain services, business case analysis, management of assets (including real estate), and management of auxiliary enterprises. Participates in administrative consideration of all policies, plans and programs of UT Southwestern Medical Center related to the business and financial operations of the institution.

  • Works under minimal supervision to direct daily financial operations of the University.
  • Provides leadership to ensure the University meets all financial regulatory requirements of The University of Texas and the State of Texas.
  • Oversee and direct the annual operating and capital budgets for the University.
  • Oversee, direct, and manage the preparation of the University's annual financial report, monthly financial reports, six year financial plan and other financial reports to the State.
  • Oversee, direct, and manage the general accounting operations, external grants and contracts, payroll and cash management.
  • Oversee the operations of the Auxiliary Services budget including food service, parking, student stores, mail room and student housing.
  • Oversee and manage all purchasing operations, inventory control, real estate services, property acquisition, tenant management and management of external space.
  • Direct and manage all financial operations of 4 non-profit 501(c) (3) corporations affiliated with the University.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Required

  • Education
    Master's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or related field
  • Experience
    10 years of progressively responsible experience in managing financial and operational affairs of complex and diversified organization with financial planning and reporting experience, including expertise in indirect cost recovery.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Work requires excellent skill in written and interpersonal communication, giving presentations, customer service, and supervisory/management skills.
  • Work requires demonstrated managerial and business acumen with a customer service orientation.
  • Work requires a strong business aptitude with experience and demonstrated understanding of complex financial situations.
  • Work requires a demonstrated ability and track record of strong financial, analytic and problem solving capabilities and ability to see the broader implications of key decisions.
  • Work requires ability to interpret and present financial information to financial and non-financial users.
  • Work requires ability to be team player, bringing creative and innovative approach to management of financial function.
  • Work requires telephone and personal contact with all levels of internal and external personnel and organizations.
  • Work requires ability to read, write, develop plans and procedures, and coordinate persons and other resources to accomplish goals.
  • Work requires responsibility for review, development, recommendation, and implementation of policies.
  • Work requires exercise of considerable judgment and great attention to detail.
