$250,000.00/yr - $300,000.00/yr

Role Overview

The VP of Engineering will own the technical strategy and execution across the company. You’ll be responsible for leading and growing a high-performing engineering organization, shaping architecture and infrastructure decisions, and scaling our platform to support millions of users. You’ll bring deep experience in protocol design, security, infrastructure, and open-source development, and lead by example with clear, empathetic communication and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Set and execute the strategic vision for engineering across infrastructure, product, and open-source protocol development.
Lead, mentor, and scale a world-class engineering team from early-stage to 50+ engineers.
Oversee both low-level protocol development and consumer-facing application execution.
Drive architecture and technical decisions, balancing scalability, security, and product agility.
Establish and continuously improve engineering processes, culture, and team dynamics.
Champion open-source principles, driving collaboration and transparency both internally and with the developer community.
Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and leadership to align engineering efforts with business goals.
Ensure high-quality execution in complex, secure, and distributed environments.

Required Qualifications

10+ years of engineering experience, with 5+ years in leadership roles managing teams of 20+ engineers.
Demonstrated experience scaling an engineering organization through periods of rapid growth.
Proven success shipping production-grade software in high-security or infrastructure-heavy environments.
Deep understanding of distributed systems, system architecture, and protocol design.
Experience in developer tools, infrastructure platforms, or messaging technologies (e.g., Cloudflare, GitHub, Signal, WhatsApp, Vercel).
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and align large, cross-functional teams.
Comfortable navigating open-source collaboration dynamics, with a high degree of transparency and community engagement.
High emotional intelligence with a leadership style rooted in mentorship, accountability, and clear communication.

Nice to Have

Experience with secure messaging, cryptography, or open-source protocol development.
Contributions to open-source infrastructure or developer tooling projects.
Background as a founder or early-stage technical leader in a high-growth startup.
Familiarity with technologies such as React Native, Swift, Kotlin, Go, or Rust.
