BaneCare Management is seeking an experienced Vice President of Business Development to lead company-wide census growth, referral development, and admissions strategy across our nine skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities and two assisted living communities throughout Massachusetts. The Vice President will oversee the company's Clinical Liaison, Business Development, and Corporate Admissions functions while providing functional leadership to Facility Admissions Directors. This role will be responsible for developing referral partnerships, improving admissions performance, and driving sustainable census and revenue growth while maintaining high standards for clinical appropriateness and compliance.
Lead company-wide census, occupancy, skilled-mix, and payer-mix strategy across all seven facilities.
Develop annual census and growth plans in partnership with facility Administrators.
Monitor referrals, admissions, discharges, open beds, conversion rates, and census trends.
Identify new market opportunities, referral sources, strategic partnerships, and specialty programs.
Build and maintain strong relationships with hospitals, discharge planners, case managers, physicians, ACOs, managed care organizations, and other referral partners.
Lead and develop the Clinical Liaison, Business Development, and Corporate Admissions teams.
Provide functional leadership and support to Facility Admissions Directors.
Recruit, train, coach, and evaluate business development and admissions personnel.
Establish performance expectations and monitor referral response time, conversion rates, follow-up, activity, documentation, and service standards.
Conduct regular facility and referral-partner visits.
Standardize referral intake, clinical review, bed-offer, and admission processes across facilities.
Oversee payer verification and authorization processes for Medicare, MassHealth, managed care, and other payers.
Partner with Administrators and Directors of Nursing to ensure admissions are clinically appropriate and supported by each facility's staffing, services, and capabilities.
Promote timely and accurate communication with residents, families, referral sources, payers, and facility teams.
Coordinate payer and hospice contract development in partnership with Finance, Operations, and Legal.
Report regularly to senior leadership on key business development and census metrics.
Track occupancy against budget and approved targets.
Monitor payer mix, referral volume, referral-to-admission conversion, response times, denials, and lost-referral trends.
Develop corrective action plans when facilities or teams are not meeting established goals.
Manage the business development budget and approved market-development initiatives.
Ensure referral, marketing, contracting, and admission practices comply with applicable federal and Massachusetts requirements.
Maintain a strong focus on resident rights, nondiscrimination, privacy, admission requirements, and applicable fraud-and-abuse laws.
Ensure business development and census goals never supersede clinical appropriateness, resident choice, facility capabilities, or regulatory requirements.
Partner with Operations, Clinical Leadership, Finance, Human Resources, and Legal on compliance and risk-management matters.
Bachelor's degree required; masters degree, RN licensure, or LNHA preferred.
7+ years of skilled nursing/post-acute admissions or business development experience, including at least 3 years leading multi-facility teams.
Strong knowledge of Medicare Part A, MassHealth, managed care authorization, and PDPM.
Experience with PointClickCare and CRM/referral management platforms preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Strong leadership, relationship-building, communication, and analytical skills.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly throughout Massachusetts.
This position requires frequent travel between BaneCare facilities and referral-partner locations throughout Massachusetts, as well as the ability to work in healthcare environments, including resident care areas. $165,000–$200,000/year, plus a full benefits package.
