EVgo, a leading public fast charging network, is seeking a Hardware Product Leader in Los Angeles to own the multi-year hardware roadmap from concept through sunset. You will partner with engineering, design, and operations to deliver reliable, scalable charging hardware and site experiences that meet safety and cost targets.

The role requires deep cross-functional leadership, strong technical fluency in hardware and firmware, and a track record of building scalable product organizations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, CS, or PM; master's preferred.
  • Experience in EV charging, renewable energy, automotive, grid infrastructure, power electronics, or industrial hardware.
  • Experience with product development processes, stage-gate governance, validation testing, interoperability testing, compliance, field reliability, and launch readiness.
  • Familiarity with charger hardware, site infrastructure, interoperability, embedded firmware, payments, HMI, serviceability.
  • Experience working with suppliers, contract manufacturers, engineering partners, regulators, or external tech partners.
  • Proven ability to build and scale product teams, define strategy, and deliver complex products with measurable business impact.

Position Summary

The Hardware Product Management function leads EVgo’s multi-year product strategy, roadmap, business cases, and customer experience for EVgo’s charging hardware, firmware-enabled capabilities, and site-level product experience. This role translates company strategy, market dynamics, customer needs, reliability objectives, and financial goals into clear product direction and cross-functional execution across engineering, design, and operations. It partners closely with Software Product Management and Engineering, and works across functions company-wide to deliver reliable, scalable, cost-effective, and differentiated charging experiences for EV drivers, site hosts, and business partners. The role carries full lifecycle ownership for hardware products, from concept and requirements through development, launch, monitoring, improvement, and sunset.

Responsibilities

  • Set the long-term hardware product strategy and roadmap for EVgo’s fast charging network, including chargers, power electronics, site equipment, firmware features, customer interfaces, reliability improvements, and site experience.
  • Turn company goals, market needs, customer feedback, regulatory requirements, and financial targets into clear product priorities.
  • Build business cases that explain customer value, costs, lifecycle economics, competitive advantage, and expected business impact.
  • Define success metrics and decision criteria to guide roadmap priorities and investment tradeoffs.

Hardware Product Leadership & Lifecycle Management

  • Lead the full product lifecycle, from idea and requirements through development, launch, monitoring, improvement, and sunset.
  • Own product requirements that reflect customer needs, business goals, field insights, operations, regulations, and stakeholder input.
  • Partner with Engineering, Design, and Operations to turn high-level product needs into clear hardware, firmware, compliance, serviceability, and reliability requirements.
  • Ensure products meet strong standards for safety, reliability, uptime, customer experience, manufacturability, and total cost of ownership.

Cross-Functional Execution & Alignment

  • Act as the senior decision-maker for hardware product questions, bringing clarity and alignment across teams.
  • Drive decisions on roadmap priorities, tradeoffs, investments, launch readiness, risks, and scope changes.
  • Communicate progress, risks, decisions, and asks clearly and concisely to senior leadership and cross-functional partners.

Market, Customer & Competitive Insight

  • Maintain a data-driven pulse on EV charging hardware, infrastructure, firmware, interoperability, reliability, regulatory, and competitive trends.
  • Champion the voice of the customer by incorporating EV driver, site host, fleet, partner, operations, and field service insights into product decisions.
  • Define customer journeys, user profiles, benchmarking approaches, and customer experience requirements for hardware and site-level products.

Organizational Leadership & Culture

  • Set clear priorities, operating rhythms, and standards for product excellence across the Hardware Product Management function.
  • Create a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, customer focus, and disciplined execution.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support team and organizational objectives.

People Management Responsibilities

  • Leads the Hardware Product Management team, including product managers and other hardware product management staff, setting priorities, operating rhythms, and standards for product excellence.
  • Builds and evolves the hardware product organization’s structure, roles, and operating model to match the scale and complexity of EVgo’s hardware roadmap.
  • Sets clear goals and performance expectations for the team, and conducts regular performance and development conversations.
  • Recruits, hires, and develops product management talent, building a bench of leaders capable of executing independently.
  • Identifies growth opportunities for team members and creates development paths toward future product leadership roles.
  • Fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and customer focus, and helps the team understand how their priorities connect to company strategy.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a minimum of 18 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 15 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with 10 years of experience; or equivalent experience.

Desired Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Computer Science, Product Management, or a related field; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • Experience in EV charging, renewable energy, automotive, grid infrastructure, power electronics, industrial equipment, or networked hardware products.
  • Experience with product development processes, stage-gate governance, validation testing, interoperability testing, compliance certifications, field reliability programs, and product launch readiness.
  • Familiarity with charger hardware, site infrastructure, OCPP, embedded firmware, cellular connectivity, payment systems, HMI, plug-and-charge, interoperability, or serviceability considerations.
  • Experience working with suppliers, contract manufacturers, engineering partners, standards bodies, regulators, or external technology partners.
  • Track record of building or scaling product teams, operating models, requirements practices, and executive reporting mechanisms.
  • Equivalent technical education or training in a related field (e.g., certification program, coursework in engineering or product management, or demonstrated on-the-job learning) accepted in lieu of a formal degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to define product strategy, build multi-year roadmaps, develop business cases, and deliver complex products with measurable business impact.
  • Strong technical fluency across hardware, firmware, embedded systems, connectivity, manufacturing, validation, reliability, or compliance domains.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence senior stakeholders, resolve complex tradeoffs, and drive alignment in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, financial, written, verbal, and executive presentation skills.
  • Up to 20–30% travel may berequiredfor customer, supplier, site, lab, partner, industry, and team meetings.
