Job description

Our client is a Fortune 500 Healthcare company seeking a VP Finance with Healthcare Payer experience.

The VP Finance leads all of the financial planning and analysis functions for the Health Plan. This includes responsibility for revenue and claims accounting, which includes complex estimation in several areas. This responsibility involves working extensively with the operational areas and actuaries to ensure that processes are optimized to exceed customer expectations, appropriate controls are in place, and issues are identified and solved in a timely manner.

The VP Finance is also responsible for development of the annual budget for the health plan, development of the annual financial plan, monthly budget analytics, forecasting, monthly financial analytics on all lines of business within the health plan, defining relevant performance metrics, interpreting trends and status related to those metrics, and identifying risks and opportunities related thereto.

This role will provide financial consulting and strategic support to senior management including preparing partner presentations, financial presentations, industry/peer group comparisons, new business opportunities and other projects requested by senior management. The VP will provide critical insight to the CFO and CEO in business development efforts, including coordinating the preparation and presentation of business cases related to those efforts.

The VP is accountable for identifying medical cost improvements from pricing and utilization and drive for improvement. This individual will oversee the development of pricing and rate development. The VP will also oversee assigned actuarial support and implement sound actuarial policies and practices to help meet its financial objectives. This individual will provide advanced support for the claim reserve process.

The Vice President Finance will interact extensively with all areas within Health Plan.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the finance activities for Health Plan, which includes direct responsibility for budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, pricing, and cost management
  • Responsible for development of appropriate analysis for monthly financial statements. Prepare financial statements and filings. Prepare financial presentations for executive and partner meetings
  • Coordinate and oversee the development of the three-year financial plan including profit and loss statements by line of business
  • Provide financial, pricing, and analytical support for new business opportunities, new contracts, and acquisitions
  • Determine underlying factors impacting premium trends for various products and regions. Monitor trends for use in rating. Identify any shifts in trend and recommend appropriate pricing actions
  • Other duties as assigned or requested

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MBA preferred
  • 10+ years experience in Financial Analysis or Accounting
  • 8-10 years progressive leadership experience
  • CPA certification preferred

  • Understanding of complex mathematical models and complex thinking skills
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Develops responses to key competitor actions and threats; creates strategies to balance short-term requirements with long-range business plans; aligns the strategic priorities of own area with the direction and strategic priorities of the broader organization
  • Develops successors and talent pools to ensure availability of future talent; identifies and attracts key individuals with the critical capabilities needed by the organization; actively promotes the recruitment, advancement, and success of people from different backgrounds
  • Has a consistent track record of delivering on commitments; treats others fairly and consistently; models and inspires high levels of integrity; acts truthfully even when in conflict with own self-interests
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively persuade others to listen, commit, and act on a new approach
