Job summary

Banner University Medical Group in Tucson, Arizona, in partnership with the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson, seeks an experienced pathologist to serve as Vice Chair of Clinical Operations and Medical Director of Laboratories. This 1.0 FTE leadership role includes strategic oversight and an active clinical practice.

The successful candidate will hold an Associate Professor or Professor faculty appointment and collaborate with hospital leadership, medical staff, and system

Qualifications

• MD, DO, or equivalent clinical doctoral degree.
• Board certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology.
• Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Arizona.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical and strategic leadership for Anatomic and Clinical Pathology laboratory operations.
• Serve as Laboratory Medical Director and ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, CMS, and applicable regulatory standards.
• Oversee quality assurance, proficiency testing, test validation, utilization, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with hospital and system leadership on laboratory strategy, service expansion, technology, and operational priorities.
• Serve as a physician liaison between laboratory services, medical staff, and hospital/system leadership.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, mentorship, and development of pathology faculty and staff.
• Maintain an active clinical practice in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology and participate in call.
• Participate in education, mentorship, and scholarly activities within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
