Job summary

Banner University Medical Group in Tucson, AZ seeks Vice Chair of Clinical Operations in Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. This 1.0 FTE leadership role blends strategic oversight with active clinical practice.

The Vice Chair will partner with the department chair, hospital leadership, and the University of Arizona College of Medicine to drive quality, regulatory compliance, education, and service expansion. Eligible for Associate Professor or Professor appointment.

Qualifications

• MD/DO or equivalent clinical doctoral degree.
• Board certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical and strategic leadership for Anatomic and Clinical Pathology laboratory operations.
• Serve as Laboratory Medical Director and ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, CMS, and applicable regulatory standards.
• Oversee quality assurance, proficiency testing, test validation, utilization, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with hospital and system leadership on laboratory strategy, service expansion, technology, and operational priorities.
• Serve as a physician liaison between laboratory services, medical staff, and hospital/system leadership.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, mentorship, and development of pathology faculty and staff.
• Maintain an active clinical practice in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology and participate in call.
• Participate in education, mentorship, and scholarly activities within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
