Are you a Licensed Veterinary Technician or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine who enjoys training and mentoring others? Pima Medical Institute is seeking a flexible, knowledgeable Substitute Veterinary Technician Instructor to join our Seattle campus faculty team on an as-needed (PRN) basis.
In this key substitute role, you will step in to deliver morning or evening lectures, lead practical laboratory demonstrations, and evaluate clinical skills when regular faculty members are away. This position offers an ideal opportunity to share your expertise, mentor future veterinary professionals, and maintain flexible teaching hours without full-time scheduling commitments.
Lesson & Lab Execution: Step in as needed to implement established daily lesson plans, deliver lectures, and lead practical lab demonstrations following the AVMA CVTEA-accredited curriculum.
Skill Competency Verification: Monitor laboratory practicals and evaluate student skill levels against official competency checklists.
Equipment & Lab Operations: Demonstrate and utilize standard veterinary equipment including anesthesia machines, electronic monitors, and surgical tools.
Safety Enforcement: Supervise students in classroom and laboratory settings, ensuring strict adherence to animal handling, lifting, restraint, and lab safety protocols.
Academic Support & Administration:
Attendance & Progress Tracking: Record daily student attendance and coordinate with the Program Director and Associate Director of Student Services when absences occur two consecutive days or exceed four days in a sequence.
Grading & Recordkeeping: Evaluate student performance, record grades, and update course records/transcripts according to institutional policies.
Student Engagement: Maintain high instructional standards to help sustain an 80%+ student success rate across covered course modules.
Education: Associate degree from an AVMA CVTEA-accredited Veterinary Technology program (or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited institution).
Credentials & Licensure: Active Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) credential or Licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in the State of Washington.
Occupational Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of practical, hands-on clinical experience within the veterinary field.
Technical & Physical Competency: Effective verbal/written communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); physical ability to demonstrate veterinary nursing procedures including animal lifting and restraint.
Hiring Range: $32.41 to $40.51 per hour.
Schedule: As-Needed / Substitute (Morning and/or Evening shift availability).
