Job summary

The Arizona Humane Society is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Technician II – Foster to join our Foster Team at the Rob and Melani Walton Papago Park Campus. This full-time role runs a four-day schedule from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday), delivering compassionate, high-quality care to pets in foster homes and supporting the Foster Heroes every step of the way.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience working as veterinary assistant or technician in a veterinary clinic/hospital setting.
  • Completion of a veterinary assistant or technician program (preferred), experience may substitute for education.
  • Must be proficient with TPR, vaccine administration, implanting microchips, fluid therapy, laboratory procedures, and medication.
  • Must know phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology, pharmacology and perform safe and humane animal handling.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, high-quality care to pets in foster homes and support Foster Heroes throughout examinations, diagnoses and treatments.
  • Assist veterinarian throughout examinations, diagnosis, and treatment while maintaining proper time management and teamwork.
  • Perform physical exams, administer medications, vaccines, and treatments; obtain medical histories and maintain records.
  • Help train and mentor other veterinary technicians in proper sedation techniques and protocols.
  • Educate Foster Heroes on medications, home care, follow-up needs and treatment plans while keeping accurate medical records.

A Day in the Life:

As a Foster Veterinary Technician, you'll be a key member of the medical team, providing compassionate, high-quality care to pets in foster homes and supporting their Foster Heroes every step of the way. You'll work closely with the veterinarian throughout examinations, diagnosis, and treatment while using strong time management, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. From obtaining medical histories and performing physical exams to administering medications, vaccines, and treatments, you'll help ensure each foster pet receives the care they need to thrive.

The ideal candidate is confident in a fast-paced shelter environment, comfortable with Fear Free handling and restraint, and able to remain calm under pressure. This role also performs laboratory testing, blood draws, radiographs, and sedated procedures, and will help train and mentor other veterinary technicians in proper sedation techniques and protocols. You'll also educate Foster Heroes on medications, home care, follow-up needs, and treatment plans while maintaining accurate medical records and a clean, organized treatment environment.
