Job summary

The Arizona Humane Society is seeking a dedicated full-time Veterinary Technician I for our Community Clinic at Nina Mason Pulliam South Mountain Campus. Schedule is Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM–6:00 PM.

You will assist veterinarians with surgery, diagnostics, fluid therapy, meds, and client education, upholding our values of innovation, compassion, and excellence. You will monitor patients, support pre/post-operative care, and collaborate with a team to deliver high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a veterinary technician program or 1 year of experience as a veterinary technician.
• Must possess excellent internal and external customer service skills.
• Ability to monitor vital signs of sedated and anesthetized patients preferred.
• Ability to intubate animals and administer fluids as needed preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist Veterinarians in all aspects of the clinic including surgery, laboratory diagnostics, fluid therapy, administration of medications, and client education.
• Collaborate with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and department leaders to solve problems and implement positive changes.

A Day in the Life:

As a veterinary technician, you will assist Veterinarians in all aspects of the clinic including surgery, laboratory diagnostics, fluid therapy, administration of medications, and client education all while championing AHS' core values of innovation, compassion, and excellence. You will work alongside the team to ensure high levels of patient care. You will be a relationship builder who collaborates with veterinarians, veterinarian technicians, and department leaders to solve problems and implement positive changes.

Job Requirements:

• High school diploma OR GED
• Completion of a veterinary technician program OR1 year of experience working as a veterinary technician at a veterinary hospital or clinic required.
• Ability to monitor vital signs of sedated and anesthetized patients in preoperative, operative, and post-operative phases preferred.
• Ability to intubate animals, place intravenous catheters, perform venipuncture, and administer fluids as needed preferred.
• Must be proficient with TPR, vaccine administration, implanting microchips, performing anesthesia, prep, fluid therapy, laboratory procedures, injections, and medication.
• Must possess excellent internal and external customer service skills.

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. There may be occasional wet floors, animal noises, odors, and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air conditioned and heated office environment.
