Job summary

Arizona Humane Society in Phoenix seeks a Veterinary Technician I to support veterinarians in surgery, diagnostics, and patient care. You will assist with fluid therapy, medications, and client education while upholding our core values of innovation, compassion, and excellence.

You’ll collaborate with veterinarians, technicians, and department leaders to solve problems and drive positive changes in a fast-paced clinic environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a veterinary technician program or 1 year of tech experience.
  • Ability to monitor vital signs of sedated patients preferred.
  • Proficient with vaccines, IVs, microchips, anesthesia, and laboratory tests.
  • Strong customer service skills and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians in surgery, diagnostics, and patient care.
  • Administer medications and fluids; perform venipuncture when needed.
  • Educate clients and champion clinic values of innovation, compassion, excellence.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians, technicians, and leaders to address issues.

A Day in the Life:

As a veterinary technician, you will assist Veterinarians in all aspects of the clinic including surgery, laboratory diagnostics, fluid therapy, administration of medications, and client education all while championing AHS' core values of innovation, compassion, and excellence. You will work alongside the team to ensure high levels of patient care. You will be a relationship builder who collaborates with veterinarians, veterinarian technicians, and department leaders to solve problems and implement positive changes.

Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma OR GED
  • Completion of a veterinary technician program OR 1 year of experience working as a veterinary technician at a veterinary hospital or clinic required.
  • Ability to monitor vital signs of sedated and anesthetized patients in preoperative, operative, and post-operative phases preferred.
  • Ability to intubate animals, place intravenous catheters, perform venipuncture, and administer fluids as needed preferred.
  • Must be proficient with TPR, vaccine administration, implanting microchips, performing anesthesia, prep, fluid therapy, laboratory procedures, injections, and medication.
  • Must possess excellent internal and external customer service skills.
Work Environment / Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. There may be occasional wet floors, animal noises, odors, and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air conditioned and heated office environment.
