Job summary

Leidos is hiring a Veterinary Technician I to support NAMRU-SA in San Antonio, TX. Responsibilities include daily animal handling, assisting surgeries, maintaining records, and coordinating research activities within a DoD research environment.

Candidates should have a high school diploma with related experience or an associate degree in Veterinary Technology, plus willingness to pursue ALAT certification. US citizenship and SECRET clearance are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED with 2+ years related experience or Vet Tech Associate Degree with 6+ months related experience.
• Willingness to pursue ALAT certification.
• Laboratory animal science experience preferred.
• Ability to obtain life-support certifications (AHA BLS, Healthcare Provider Course, or Red Cross CPR).
• Willingness to complete annual occupational health exams for facility access.
• US citizenship is required due to federal contract.
• Candidate must obtain SECRET level clearance; preference for existing clearance.

Responsibilities

• Daily handling and restraint of various small and large animal species.
• Support surgical procedures, OR maintenance, health surveillance, housing, record keeping, and pathogen-free techniques.
• Maintain traffic patterns, sterile equipment, pest control, and QA procedures.
• Conduct daily/weekly inspections to ensure standards compliance.
• Assist with purchase requests including animal procurement and shipping coordination.
• Assist with inventory maintenance.
• Coordinate animal research activities among contractors, scientists, staff, and lab technicians.
