Job summary

Leidos LLC seeks a Veterinary Technician I to support NAMRU-SA in San Antonio, TX. You will handle and restrain diverse animals, assist surgeries, and maintain housing, records, and health surveillance under federal contract requirements.

The role requires a High School Diploma/GED with experience or an Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology with minimal related experience, and you must be willing to pursue ALAT certification. US citizenship and potential secret clearance are required.

Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED plus 2 years of related experience or Veterinary Technician Associates Degree plus 6 months of related experience.
Willingness to work towards obtaining ALAT certification.
Laboratory animal science experience preferred.
Ability to obtain and maintain required life-support certifications (AHA BLS, Healthcare Provider Course, or American Red Cross CPR).
Willingness to complete annual occupational health exams for facility access.
US citizenship is required due to Federal contract requirements.
Candidate may need SECRET classification access; preference for those with clearance.

Responsibilities

Daily handling and restraint of various small and large animal species.
Assist in surgical procedures, operating room maintenance, disease prevention and health surveillance, proper housing, and record keeping.
Maintain sterile equipment, traffic patterns, pest control, and QA procedures.
Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with standards.
Assist with procurement requests and animal shipping coordination.
Assist with inventory maintenance.
Coordinate animal research activities among contractors, scientists, staff and technicians.
