Job summary

SciTech Services, Inc. is seeking a Veterinary Technician III experienced in biomedical research to ensure the health and well-being of various research animals. The incumbent will provide daily oversight and training to the veterinary technician team.

Key duties include health checks across multiple species, adherence to SOPs, data recording, and collaboration with veterinary staff. The role requires LAT certification and a focus on regulatory compliance in a busy lab environment.

Qualifications

• LAT certification required; ensure regulatory compliance and AAALAC accreditation.
• Three years’ experience in research animal veterinary technician care.
• Knowledge of Federal, state, and NIH regulations and policies; AAALAC accreditation familiarity.
• Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication with a positive attitude.
• Must be able to stand long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Work environment: noisy and temperatures above 77°F.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily oversight and training to the veterinary technician team.
• Care for diverse species: NHP, rodents, rabbits, swine, ferrets, guinea pigs.
• Perform daily/weekly health checks on laboratory animals.
• Conduct QA checks and follow SOPs.
• Collect and record physiological data; report abnormalities.
• Prepare and administer diets, nutrition and treatments.
• Maintain electronic medical records and treatment plans.
• Set up surgical instruments and operating room procedures.
• Perform injections, euthanasia, and basic medical care.
• Clean and sanitize procedure areas and prep spaces.
• Restrain animals safely for observations, blood collection, catheterization, tissue collection, or anesthesia.
• Process and prepare blood/urine/stool/tissue for diagnostics.
• Assist in study-related necropsies and tissue harvest.
• Ensure regulatory compliance for animal husbandry care.
• Provide emergency first aid when needed.
• Generate technical reports from facility data.

SciTech Services, Inc. (SciTech) is seeking a Veterinary Technician III experienced in biomedical research to ensure the health and well-being of various research animals. The Veterinary Technician III will be responsible for providing daily oversight and training to the veterinary technician team.

Duties include but is not limited to:

• Experience caring for various animal species including but not limited to Non-Human Primates (NHP), rodents, rabbits, swine/mini-swine, ferrets, and guinea pigs.
• Responsible for performing daily and weekly health checks of all laboratory animals.
• Conduct quality assurance checks and implement existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
• Collect and record animal physiological data and conditions. Report any abnormal situations to veterinary staff.
• Prepare and distribute individualized diets, nutrition, and clinical treatments.
• Maintain electronic medical records and treatment plans based on veterinary directions.
• Setup basic surgical instruments, equipment, and operating room procedures.
• Perform veterinary technical procedures such as injections, euthanasia, and basic medical care.
• Clean and sanitize procedure areas, operating rooms, and prep areas.
• Safe handling and restraint of animals for observation, blood collection, catheterization, tissue collection, or anesthesia.
• Process and prepare blood, urine, stool, or tissue samples for diagnostics and research.
• Participate in study related necropsies and tissue harvest.
• Oversight and implementation of regulatory requirements for animal husbandry care.
• Administer simple treatments and emergency first aid.
• Manage facility data and compose technical reports for animal studies.

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent education required.
• Three years’ experience in research animal veterinary technician care.
• Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certified.
• Knowledge of Federal, state, and National Institutes of Health (NIH) regulations and policies to ensure regulatory compliance and AAALAC accreditation.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, with a positive attitude.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift, pull, and push equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Work is performed in an area that is noisy and has relatively high ambient temperature (greater than 77°F).
