Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Veterinary Technician I to support the Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) in San Antonio, TX. You will perform daily handling and restraint of various small and large animal species and assist with surgical procedures and health surveillance.

This role requires a High School Diploma/GED (or a Veterinary Technician Associate’s Degree) and the ability to obtain ALAT certification. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance are required.

Qualifications

• US citizenship is required due to Federal contract requirements.
• Ability to obtain and maintain life-support certifications (AHA BLS, Healthcare Provider Course, or American Red Cross CPR; web-based courses not accepted).

Responsibilities

• Daily handling and restraint of various small and large animal species
• Conduct and support surgical procedures, operating room maintenance, health surveillance, and housing
• Maintain inventory and ensure quality assurance procedures
• Conduct daily and weekly inspections to ensure compliance with standards
• Assist in preparation of purchase requests and coordination of shipping
• Assist with maintenance of inventory supplies
• Coordinate animal research activities between contractors, scientists, animal care staff and lab technicians
