Job summary

Urban Animal is seeking a Front of House receptionist to warmly welcome clients, answer calls, and support the veterinary team across our Seattle walk-in clinics. As part of a worker cooperative, you will help deliver compassionate care within a collaborative workplace and participate in our option-based veterinary model that emphasizes candid conversations and a positive client experience.

Typical duties include handling phones, greeting clients, managing client data, guiding clients and pets

Qualifications

  • Prior customer service experience is required.
  • Knowledge of veterinary terminology is preferred.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.

Responsibilities

  • Answer multi-line telephones and greet clients.
  • Input and distribute client data; escort clients and patients to exam rooms.
  • Check clients out at the end of the visit.
  • Diffuse challenging client situations while maintaining high levels of client care.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Based on experience and job-leveling

  • Medical insurance including vision and dental, with a paid portion of monthly benefits by Urban Animal.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) - three weeks equal to hours worked per week, based on job classification.

About the Role

As a member of the Front of House team, we help the veterinary team provide every patient and client with our "option-based" approach to veterinary medicine while understanding "gold standard medicine".

Front of House staff are the first people our clients interact with when calling or visiting. Individuals should represent a professional image and demeanor whenever you're on the phone and in the practice for a positive client and patient experience.

What You'll Do

Typical tasks include answering multi-line telephones, greeting clients, inputting and distributing client data, escorting clients and patients to exam rooms, and checking clients out at the end of the visit. Front of House staff need the ability to diffuse challenging client situations and maintain a high level of client care and communication.

Other Duties - Client Relations and Veterinary Knowledge
  • Ability to receive, relay, and follow up on phone and e-mail messages.
  • Able to answer client inquiries about basic animal care questions.
  • Possesses and/or can learn a complete knowledge of parasite preventatives to promote client education and sales.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
General Requirements
  • Physical Effort | Requires standing for extended periods of time.
  • Working Conditions | Will be exposed and required to clean up animal feces, urine, blood, etc. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases.
  • Resiliency | Be flexible in attitude and work habits; availability to work Saturdays.
  • Maintains a cooperative and respectful relationship with team members.
  • Displays a genuine liking for animals, their owners and enjoys working with both.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written directions.
  • Within 30 days of hire, ability to understand, pronounce and spell commonly used veterinary terms.
  • Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology preferred.
  • Prior customer service experience required.
  • Previous receptionist and veterinary practice experience are desirable but not required.
