Job summary

Urban Animal in Seattle seeks a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our collaborative team. You will report to the BOH Manager and focus on client experience while ensuring high quality care for cats and dogs across our walk-in locations.

You will assist veterinarians in medical, surgical and dental procedures, monitor anesthesia, and help prepare patients for surgery, supporting our option-based, cooperative care model with flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working as a veterinary technician (emergency/referral or specialty a plus).
  • Washington State Veterinary Technician License.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Based on experience and job-leveling

  • Medical insurance including vision and dental, with a paid portion of monthly benefits by Urban Animal.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) – three weeks equal to hours worked per week, based on job classification.

About the Role

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician / Reports to: Back of House (BOH) Manager

What You'll Do

  • High level focus on client experience and customer service
  • Ensures high quality care for our patients
  • Development of personal professional goals.
  • Assists the veterinarian in medical, surgical and dental procedures; prepares patients for surgery
  • Administers and monitors anesthesia; manages patients during surgery and recovery
  • Prepares estimates for procedures and discuss financial commitments with clients supporting hospital financial policies

Qualifications

Education, Licensure and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working as a veterinary technician (background in emergency/referral or specialty practices is a plus)
  • Washington State Veterinary Technician License

General Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Genuinely enjoys working with animals and able to deal with them when they are stressed, ill or in pain.
  • Well-spoken and approaches job duties in a mature and professional manner.
  • Experience working in a team environment and collaborates well with all levels of team members.
  • Stress management skills in a busy, fast-paced team atmosphere
  • Physical Effort
  • Work requires lifting and carrying animals (assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs.) and must be able to stand for extended periods of time and frequently work in a bent position.
  • Working conditions:
  • May be exposed to unpleasant odors including animal urine and feces, different noises, bites, scratches, and contagious diseases.

Wages and Benefits

Urban Animal Licensed Veterinary Technicians base hourly salary range is based on proficiently performing skills within designated job levels and an employee's compliance with company policies and programs. Benefits are outlined below and are separate from the hourly wage.

  • Benefits are separate from compensation for all eligible employees based on the average hours consistently worked by an employee.
  • Medical insurance, including vision and dental insurance.
  • Two insurance benefit tiers determining the monthly premium amount paid by the employee, those working at least 30 hours a week and those working 36 hours or more. A portion of the monthly premium for employee coverage is paid by Urban Animal.
  • For employees consistently working more than 30 hours a week, Paid Time Off (PTO) is earned based on an employee's tenure with Urban Animal and available to use as accrued after first 60 days of employment.
  • 0-5 years earns at a rate of 0.06 hours per hour worked
  • 5 and more years earns at the rate of 0.08 hours per hour worked
  • Observed paid holidays if it falls on your normally scheduled shift.
  • New Year's Day (Jan 1), Memorial Day, Juneteenth (June 19), Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas (December 25).
  • Employee Discount on veterinary services/products based on job classification.
  • Friend/Family discount of 20% for designated number of pets based on job classification.
  • Discounted ORCA card.
  • A three-day work week.
  • Eligibility to participate in our 401k plan one year after your effective start date. Urban Animal matches 100% up to 3% and 50% of 4% and 5%. Employer match is 100% immediately vested.
