Join NVA for an externship that provides veterinary students with invaluable hands-on clinical experience. Work closely with veterinarians at the Animal Medical Care Center to master various veterinary skills. Gain insights into daily operations while enjoying a supportive learning environment and receive a travel stipend for your commitment.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share common features: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians at Animal Medical Care Center to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Externs will also have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
The externship duration typically ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the stipend amounts and HERE for more details on the program.
*An additional $500 travel stipend is offered on top of the listed stipend for externships at this hospital.
