An externship at National Veterinary Associates offers veterinary students hands-on clinical experience while working with Associate Veterinarians. The program is designed to foster professional growth and improve patient care skills in a supportive environment. Opportunities for mentorship and travel stipends are also available.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital has its own characteristics, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians at Strawbridge Animal Care to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, assisting or performing surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE* to view stipend amounts and HERE for more details on the stipend program.
*An additional $500 travel stipend is offered for externships at this hospital, over the listed amount.
