National Veterinary Associates offers a unique externship experience for veterinary students at its hospitals. Participants will gain hands-on clinical exposure, develop essential skills, and work closely with experienced veterinarians in a supportive environment. This opportunity enhances both practical knowledge and communication abilities in a real-world veterinary setting.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
At our hospital, with friendly long-term staff, students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient medical care. Students will also have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externships at Chesterfield Animal Hospital last from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
