National Veterinary Associates offers an externship for veterinary students to gain hands-on clinical experience in a supportive environment. This program includes working with experienced veterinarians on patient care and clinical tasks for 2 to 8 weeks, along with a travel/living expense stipend.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of a veterinary practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externship experiences at Thiensville-Mequon Small Animal Clinic last from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view stipend amounts and HERE for stipend program details.
