National Veterinary Associates offers externship experiences for veterinary students aiming to learn about daily operations in a veterinary practice. Students will collaborate with experienced veterinarians, gaining practical skills through varied tasks such as patient care and surgery assistance while supported by a passionate team.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a valuable opportunity to understand the daily operations of a veterinary practice and gain hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they share common qualities: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a dedication to providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
The externship duration at Braden River Animal Hospital typically ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of their class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
