Join a leading global pet care organization as a veterinary extern in Sumner, WA. Gain hands-on clinical experience while working under experienced veterinarians and enhance your veterinary skills in a supportive hospital environment. Opportunities to earn stipends for travel/living expenses are available.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital has its own characteristics, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externships at Sumner Veterinary Hospital last from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and more details about the program.
