Join a collaborative team at a leading veterinary clinic for an externship where you will gain hands-on clinical experience. Work closely with DVM mentors, participate in patient management, and enhance your communication skills in a supportive environment surrounded by outdoor activities. Whether you're an early student or about to graduate, all interested veterinary students are encouraged to apply.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of a veterinary practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital has its unique aspects, all share a common environment: supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and dedicated to providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
At Poulsbo Marina Veterinary Clinic, we have a collaborative team of doctors and an experienced DVM mentor. Veterinary students who enjoy outdoor activities are encouraged to apply, as our location is ideal for hiking, kayaking, and exploring.
Students will work closely with supervising DVMs to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All DVM students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view stipend amounts and HERE for more details on the program.
