National Veterinary Associates offers veterinary students a unique externship opportunity at Stoney Brook Veterinary Hospital in Lebanon, NH. This program includes hands-on experience in a supportive environment and mentorship from experienced professionals, enhancing both clinical skills and professional development.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of veterinary practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is distinct, they all share a supportive environment committed to excellent veterinary medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians at Stoney Brook Veterinary Hospital to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
The externship duration typically ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
