Join a leading global pet care organization for an externship opportunity at one of our NVA hospitals. Gain hands-on clinical experience while working with seasoned veterinarians in a supportive and growth-oriented environment. This externship is designed for veterinary students seeking to enhance their skills and understanding of veterinary operations within a practical setting.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital has its own characteristics, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the program.
