Join a leading pet care organization for an externship opportunity at NVA hospitals. This position allows veterinary students to gain essential hands-on experience while working closely with experienced veterinarians in a commitment to excellent animal care. Length of externship can vary, offering a unique insight into veterinary practices and patient management.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a valuable opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they share common features: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a dedication to providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians at Crossroads Animal Hospital to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of their class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and here for more details about the stipend program.
