National Veterinary Associates offers veterinary students a hands-on externship experience, allowing them to engage in various clinical tasks such as patient care and surgery assistance. Spanning from two to eight weeks, these externships provide valuable insights into daily operations in a supportive environment while encouraging professional growth.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externships at Weare Animal Hospital last from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the stipend amounts and HERE for details on the stipend program.
