Join a leading global pet care organization for an externship that empowers veterinary students through hands-on clinical experience. Gain invaluable skills in patient care, clinical exams, and surgical assistance while working closely with expert veterinarians in a supportive environment.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides veterinary students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital has its own characteristics, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient medical care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. At New Hope Veterinary Clinic, externships are available to 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel and living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the stipend amounts and HERE for more details on the stipend program.
