National Veterinary Associates offers a unique externship experience for 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students at their Brentwood location. Externs will work closely with veterinarians, gaining hands-on skills in patient care, diagnostics, and surgical assistance while being supported by a network committed to quality animal care and professional growth.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. At Brentwood Family Pet Care, externships are designed for 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
