National Veterinary Associates offers externship opportunities for veterinary students, providing hands-on clinical experience and training alongside experienced veterinarians. Participants will engage in various veterinary practices, develop practical skills, and receive a stipend for travel and living expenses.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of veterinary practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital has its own characteristics, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All DVM students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view the stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
