Abqpetcarehospital offers an externship for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students at Laurelwood Animal Hospital in Beaverton, Oregon. This externship provides the opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience and understand the day-to-day operations of a veterinary practice.
Students will work closely with supervising veterinarians, assisting in patient history gathering, physical exams, treatment plans, and more. Most externships last between two to eight weeks, offering valuable experience in a professional setting.
Laurelwood Animal Hospital is a 5 ½ doctor practice with GP, some specialty procedures (an Internist on staff), and I-131 for cats.
An externship experience at our hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience.
Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules.
Externships at Laurelwood Animal Hospital are offered to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students.
Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
