College Garden Animal Hospital in Roswell, NM, offers an Externship for veterinary students providing hands-on experience in patient care. Students will work with veterinarians to gather histories, perform exams, and assist in surgical procedures.

Students will work closely with the supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing, assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing clinical skills, students will have the opportunity to practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on the student and hospital schedules.
Veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The hospital also offers housing at no expense to the student in addition to the stipend.
