Abqpetcarehospital in Joelton, Tennessee, offers an externship opportunity for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. This position provides valuable hands-on clinical experience, enabling students to work closely with supervising veterinarians to develop essential skills in patient care.

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give veterinary students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of a practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. The externship allows students to work closely with a supervising veterinarian to develop skills in gathering patient histories, performing physical examinations, creating treatment plans, conducting diagnostics, providing dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical care.
In addition to clinical skills, student externs practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externships typically last between two and eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. They are available to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students at New Hope Veterinary Clinic.
Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel and living expense stipend. Details about stipend amounts and the stipend program can be found on the NVA website.
