National Veterinary Associates is offering an externship for veterinary students, providing opportunities to gain valuable hands-on experience in a supportive environment. Students will work closely with veterinarians, enhancing their clinical and communication skills while participating in daily operations and patient care.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, common features include a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externships at Foothills Veterinary Hospital South last from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the stipend amounts and HERE for details on the stipend program.
