Job summary

VEG is seeking a Veterinary Nursing Shift Lead in a fast-paced emergency setting. You will own the rhythm and flow of each shift, ensuring top-tier patient care and empowering your team to thrive.

You’ll lead huddles, rounds, and on-the-floor coaching while maintaining a big-picture view of operations. Ideal candidates have 1+ year in veterinary technician roles, strong clinical workflow knowledge, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• Credentialed veterinary technician or enrolled in VEG credentialing program.
• Minimum 1+ year experience in a veterinary technician or assistant role, emergency/AS setting preferred.
• Strong understanding of clinical workflow and team dynamics.

Responsibilities

• Maintain patient status, team bandwidth, and shift-wide needs.
• Oversee daily workflow and adapt to unplanned events.
• Assign and adjust shift roles with clarity and care.
• Lead floor support and on-the-floor coaching as needed.
• Coordinate breaks, resolve conflicts, and model calm under pressure.
• Lead shift transitions, huddles, and end-of-day wrap-ups.
• Communicate clearly and escalate key issues when necessary.
• Turn downtime into learning time and growth opportunities.
• Flag incidents with transparency and ongoing improvement.
• Collaborate with hospital leadership on coverage and coaching.
