Job summary

VEG for Pets in Calabasas, CA seeks an experienced Medical Director (MD) to lead emergency veterinary operations across our network. You’ll guide hospitals, uphold VEG’s values, mentor teams, and drive medical excellence from triage to discharge.

The role emphasizes servant leadership, collaboration with specialty services, and a culture focused on growth, learning, and patient-centered care. Nights/weekends/holidays required; strong communication essential.

Qualifications

• A DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree.
• 5+ years of traditional 24/7 ER experience and critical case management.
• Unrelenting passion for customer satisfaction through providing the highest medical care to patients.
• Training in emergency surgery/endoscopy preferred.
• Leadership skills training and mentorship experience preferred.
• Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays on rotating basis.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain a culture of excellence and safety across VEG hospitals.
• Lead teams to deliver high-quality emergency care from triage through discharge.
• Guide doctor and technician collaboration to ensure clinically excellent care.
• Head recruitment strategy and succession planning with talent partners.
• Manage doctor schedules and market-level operational goals.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Foster mentorship and professional development through 1:1 meetings.
• Partner with market leaders on marketing and growth initiatives.
