Shift: Full-time, 1st Shift
Pay: Starting at $19+/hr, based on experience

What You’ll Do

  • Provide daily care to a variety of animals, ensuring clean housing, proper nutrition, and enrichment

  • Monitor animal health and report any signs of illness or distress

  • Perform basic animal handling and restraint for procedures and exams

  • Assist with sample collection, clinical observations, and documentation under GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) guidelines

  • Support veterinarians and research staff with medical treatments, recordkeeping, and facility hygiene

Position Requirements

Education and experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Animal Science or related field
  • RVT preferred
  • AALAS certification of ALAT preferred
  • Laboratory animal experience and experience with in vivo preclinical studies at a CRO or pharmaceutical company preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read, write and interpret scientific material
  • Manual dexterity to perform research functions, type and use office equipment
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time

General

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Ability to read, write and understand oral and/or written instructions

Physical Activity

  • This position will require frequent walking, sitting for extended periods of time, carrying, standing, heavy lifting (min. 50 lbs.), reaching while standing, gripping and twisting hand movements, finger control and other general repetitive motions.
  • Manual dexterity to catch and hold animals.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent involvement with radiant/electrical energy, solvents, grease, oil, irritants, acids, bases, and other hazardous chemicals, electro-mechanical hazards, flammable materials and biohazards. Due to exposure to hazardous biological materials (which may include HIV positive specimens), immunization to diseases may be a required
  • Will be exposed to animal dander, bites, scratches, etc., and material associated with animal husbandry
  • Able to wear latex gloves, dust musk and/or respirator, and safety glasses as required.
  • The noise level is usually moderate to loud requiring ear protection
  • Mantoux TB test with negative result is required

Tools, Equipment, & Other Resources Used

  • Various software applications sustained by a Windows platform. (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Autoclaves, sterilizers, electronic scales/balances, clippers, shavers, vented hoods, and other surgical utilities (e.g. stereotaxic frames).

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person’s relevant experience and/or education level.
