Job summary

Kingsport Veterinary Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians in patient care, monitor hospitalized pets, and assist with procedures. The role includes preparing medications, in-house lab work, and client education in a busy AAHA-accredited practice.

The position requires weekend availability and physical capability to lift up to 25 pounds, with a focus on safety, teamwork, and compassionate client service.

Qualifications

• Weekend availability as required
• Previous veterinary experience preferred
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist with heavier loads
• Familiarity with OSHA safety techniques and PPE usage
• Basic math for calculating medication dosages
• Good computer skills and familiarity with MS Office

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatment.
• Monitor hospitalized pets and maintain patient records.
• Take histories, vital signs, and weights during outpatient exams.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor anesthesia as directed.
• Obtain samples and perform in-house laboratory tests.
• Take and develop radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide client education about veterinary care and procedures.
• Restock rooms and maintain cleanliness of exam, treatment, and lab areas.
