Job summary

Village Animal Hospital in Lexington, KY seeks a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians, monitor hospitalized pets, and assist with surgeries. You will educate clients, prepare prescriptions, and handle in-house lab work while ensuring patient comfort and safety.

The role requires weekend availability and prior veterinary experience is preferred. You will lift and move animals and equipment up to 25 pounds and follow OSHA safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in medical procedures and surgeries as needed.
• Take histories, vital signs, and weights during outpatient exams and educate clients.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vitals during procedures.
• Collect and process samples for in-house and outside labs.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
• Handle and restrain animals during exams; provide comfort to patients.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments per veterinarian instructions.
• Maintain cleanliness and restock treatment and exam areas; keep equipment organized.
• Demonstrate warmth and professionalism in all client interactions.
