Job summary

Petco is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to provide excellent medical care to Vetco Total Care patients and exceptional customer service to owners in our veterinary hospital. You will help with exams, surgeries, dentistry, anesthesia, and patient management while maintaining EMR accuracy and a clean hospital environment.

Ideal candidates have at least 1 year in a veterinary setting, strong communication skills, and a team-oriented mindset.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience in veterinary practice or related animal care.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be compassionate and team oriented.
• Must have telephone and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments and escort them into an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs and record the EMR.
• Assist doctors with appointments (routine and emergency), surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia, under supervision.
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications as directed by the vet and help maintain EMR.
• Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results to doctor and clients, and maintain client/patient records.
• Help prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures and assist in anesthesia as directed; monitor vital parameters and recovery.
• Under supervision, perform in-hospital treatments including medications and IV fluids, keep patients clean and fed, and assist with walking canine patients.
• Assist in training new staff and share knowledge as required.
• Keep hospital environment neat; perform regular cleaning and maintenance.
