Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Richmond, VA seeks a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced emergency and specialty care team. You will triage emergencies, assist DVMs with estimates, and perform diagnostics, ICU/inpatient care, and client communication.

You will provide nursing care, conduct rounds, monitor meds, assist with anesthesia, and stay current with CPR guidelines. We offer pet insurance, education allowances, and a culture focused on development and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart rate, pulse, capillary refill, mucous membranes, temperature, and respiratory effort.
• Possess knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with ASA I or II patients.

Responsibilities

• Triage emergency cases and assist DVM with estimates as needed.

• Monitor patients and administer medications as prescribed.
• Perform physical exams and vital sign monitoring.
• Assist with anesthesia and monitoring equipment as required.
• Maintain CPR readiness and follow RECOVER guidelines.

Pay: $19.00 - $27.00 / hour
This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency leveling system.

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in andassistDVMwith crafting and goingoverestimatesas needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs,labwork,etc), setting patients up inICUor Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handle client communication.

As a Veterinary Assistant, you will:

• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
