Job summary

BluePearl Lafayette is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to provide nursing care to patients and support the team in a fast-paced emergency setting. The role includes restraining animals, taking rounds, and assisting with medications and monitoring equipment.

The position is full-time with varying hours. Compensation ranges hourly with differential pay for nights and weekends, reflecting experience and advancement through our leveling system.

Attention Veterinary Assistants!

If you love helping animals, and appreciate a fast paced environment, BluePearl Lafayette would like to meet you. Our 6-doctor Emergency Service is open 7 days a week and sees a variety of cases from routine to complex emergencies. The ideal candidate's skill level should include obtaining lab samples, placing catheters, administering SQ, IM and IV injections, and maintaining equipment / instruments.

Job requirements also include restraining animals, cleaning kennels, and promoting outstanding customer service. Candidate should be a self-motivated, hard-working team player. Cornerstone software familiarity is a plus. This is a full-time position. Hours may vary.

Veterinary Assistant Pay: $19.35 - $28.70 / hour depending on experience and advancement through our leveling system. We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

• Shift differentials are based on a 4 hour minimum.

As a Veterinary Assistant, You Will Also

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
