Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our fast‑paced emergency department.

Pay & Schedule

$17.00 - $28.00 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency leveling system.

Schedule: Both weekday & weekend shifts available.

Benefits

• Up to $150 annual stipend for continued education.
• Competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked nights and weekends.
• Shift differentials are based on a 4‑hour minimum.
• Examples:
  • Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = $3.00 shift differential
  • Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $4.50 shift differential
  • Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $3.00 shift differential

Job Responsibilities

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVMs with crafting and going overestimates as needed. They perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc), set patients up in ICU or inpatient ward, discharge patients, and handle client communication.

• Provide nursing care to patients per hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list, and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and monitor therapeutic response appropriately.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and durations.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exam; accurately count heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.
• Possess working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
