Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Arden Hills, MN seeks a Veterinary Assistant (Emergency Department) to triage and support DVMs in handling urgent cases. You will assist with diagnostics, patient setup in ICU or inpatient wards, discharge coordination, and clear client communication.

You will provide nursing care, monitor medications, perform phlebotomy, assist with anesthesia, and stay current on CPR guidelines as part of a fast-paced emergency team.

Qualifications

• Experience in veterinary patient care and triage is desirable.
• Ability to document patient data accurately and clearly.
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced emergency setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during rounds.
• Understand medication classifications and monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exams and monitor vitals.
• Assist with anesthesia/monitoring for ASA I or II cases.
• Adhere to CPR guidelines and role responsibilities.

BluePearl Pet Hospital – Veterinary Assistant (Emergency Department)

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going overestimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc.), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
