Job summary

Petco in Midvale, Utah, is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support our Vetco Total Care hospital team and deliver compassionate care to patients and their owners.

You will assist doctors, handle patient histories, prepare patients for procedures, maintain EMRs, and help with day-to-day hospital duties in a fast-paced, team-focused environment.

This role emphasizes patient welfare, teamwork, and excellent communication, with opportunities to grow the skills of a veterinary support team.

Qualifications

• Preferred to have at least 1-year previous experience working in veterinary practice.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be compassionate and sympathetic, and able to maintain a professional attitude during emotional and stressful situations.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments and escort them into an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs, and record the EMR.
• Assist doctors with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision.
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications as directed by the veterinarian.
• Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results, and maintain client/patient records.
• Assist in hospital procedures and monitor anesthesia under supervision, ensure patient safety and discharge readiness.
