Job summary

Petco is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support Vetco Total Care full-service hospital patients and their owners. You will assist doctors, collect histories, record EMRs, and help maintain a welcoming, efficient clinic environment.

The role emphasizes compassionate client service, accurate record-keeping, teamwork, and adherence to hospital protocols. Eligible candidates have at least 1 year in veterinary care, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Preferred 1 year of veterinary practice experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Compassionate, professional demeanor under stress.
• Must have telephone and computer skills.
• Willing to learn and work as a team.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments and escort them into an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs, and record the EMR.
• Assist doctors with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision.
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process lab samples, handle medications, and maintain EMRs.
• Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results, and update records.
• Prepare patients for surgical/dental procedures and assist during anesthesia, monitor vitals, and discharge as needed.
• Perform in-hospital treatments, administer medications, and maintain patient care areas.
• Assist in training new staff and share knowledge as required.
• Keep hospital environment neat and clean and perform regular maintenance.
